American Public Television Shows Earn 13 Daytime Emmy® Nominations
AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN FROM COOK'S ILLUSTRATED, BIZ KID$, JOSEPH ROSENDO'S TRAVELSCOPE and others recognized by industry's top honorsBOSTON (MAY 9, 2012) – American Public Television (APT), a leading distributor of programs for public television, announced that several of its best-known programs have been honored with 13 Daytime Emmy nominations by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
“We are proud to see our programming recognized with nominations for one of the most prestigious honors in television,” said Cynthia Fenneman, President and CEO of American Public Television. “Public television has earned its place as a trusted home for daytime fare thanks to programs featuring expert hosts alongside entertaining and uninterrupted content.” For the 2012 Daytime Emmys, APT programs accounted for 13 of the 51 (25%) public television nominations; without APT programming, public television would rank third behind ABC and Nickelodeon. In the previous two years, APT also figured prominently in the Daytime Emmys – with 13 and 11 shows nominated respectively in 2011 and 2010.APT's nominees feature some of the most recognized shows and personalities on public television, across a variety of genres – including travel, lifestyle, cooking, children's programming and woodworking. For instance, Rick Bayless, recently named one of the "100 most powerful people in Chicago" by Chicago magazine and host of MEXICO – ONE PLATE AT A TIME WITH RICK BAYLESS, was nominated for "Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host."
APT programs made up three out of the five nominees for "Outstanding Directing in a Lifestyle / Culinary Program," as AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN FROM COOK'S ILLUSTRATED (featuring celebrated chef Rick Bayless), COOK'S COUNTRY FROM AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN and MEXICO – ONE PLATE AT A TIME WITH RICK BAYLESS earned nods.
BIZ KID$, the Parents' Choice Award-winning series that teaches kids financial responsibility and entrepreneurship, received multiple nominations in the categories of "Outstanding Children's Series," "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Editing" and "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action."
ROUGH CUT – WOODWORKING WITH TOMMY MAC is one of the six series nominated for "Outstanding Lifestyle Program," while PEEP & THE BIG WIDE WORLD garnered a nomination for "Outstanding Children's Animated Program." An Emmy winner last year, the acclaimed travel show JOSEPH ROSENDO'S TRAVELSCOPE – hosted by Joseph Rosendo – earned three nominations for "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing – Live Action," "Outstanding Special Class Directing" and "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography (Film or Electronic)." In addition, EQUITREKKING, the first travel television series to explore the world on horseback, received a nomination for "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography (Film or Electronic)."
